- Operation Restoration Program Helps Restore Borehole Well in Kabyuma Village
Clean water improves daily life and provides joy for the residents in Ugandan village of Kabyuma When well #R115 broke down in 2019, residents of Kabyuma village were left with no reliable water source close to their community. They would travel for over 3 miles in search of water from ponds and swamps. Given that this was their only source of water, residents and children got sick due to drinking the contaminated water. Water wells and their quality can deteriorate over time. At Wells of Life, it's our commitment to maintaining these wells. Teopista Nassuna is a single mother who radiates the essence of a hardworking, strong, persevering individual. Her compassion for her family triumphs over all battles she may endure. She bears no expense in providing for them. "As a rural farmer, I used to get up early to walk for water after which I would then cultivate my garden, it would take me almost the entire day, and I often got home late. Everything I did was for my family. I always had to carry water from distant unprotected water sources like ponds along with my sister." shared Nassuna. (Teopista pictured on the far left) From here life only improved for the Residents of Kabyuma village. In 2021, Wells of Life, with the support of Mary Somers of Wexford, Ireland rehabilitated well #R115. Nassuna shares her utmost gratitude, for once again she has the benefits of having a reliable water source in her community, it has improved her family's life. “Ever since the well was repaired, slowly we transitioned from uninhabited behaviors like wearing dirty clothes or poor hygiene gradually practicing good personal hygiene and sanitation that brought dignity and health to my family” Gratefully shared Nassuna. The joy clean water provides is most rewarding. For Residents of Kabyuma village, this means more than anything. By bringing communities together through clean water we are marching towards transforming the lives of over 1 million people. Well, restoration is an important factor in maintaining clean, safe water for residents, and our mission is to uphold these standards. "Now that we have clean water close by, we no longer have to walk long distances for water from ponds. I can cultivate and irrigate my garden throughout the year without having to depend on the weather seasons. I also have more time to spend with my children at home. I am very happy and grateful for what Wells of Life did for us as a community."Nassuna concluded. Make an impact today! Give the gift of joy. The kind of joy that only clean water can bring.

Run4Water 2022, the 8th annual 5K Run/1K Walk, has a goal to raise $200,000 which will restore 50 water wells for people in need of clean water in rural Uganda. Every dollar raised at Run4Water provides clean water for families which improves both health and hygiene while creating a safer community and more sustainable society.” Participants actively raising funds for this year’s Run4Water include Sister Joan Hogan, an 88-year-old nun and Wells of Life ambassador, as well as a team of students from JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. as the school makes its debut in this charitable annual Orange County event. JSerra students are hoping to challenge the Run4Water record of most money raised at $24,000 which was set four years ago by students from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. “It feels great knowing that so many people want to do good in the world by raising funds that are positively changing lives,” said Jordan. “Run4Water is such a special event because where else can you help 50,000 people in one morning simply by running or walking for an hour?” Run4Water 2022 features a morning full of family fun, exercise and giving the life-changing gift of hope. - Over 70 Households in Nabugondo Village Now Have Access to Clean Water
Rose Nabakooza, 36, a resident of Nabugondo village in Kassanda district, remembers the tough times of collecting water from distant ponds and hauling heavy jerry cans back home for her family every single day. Rose, a mother of seven children, shared about this hard experience of lack of access to water in her community before the village received a clean water source. “First of all, the ponds where we fetched water from were far away and dangerous to send children there without an adult to make sure they don’t fall into the deep-water pits,” said Rose. “I remember at one time we heard of a child they discovered dead; she had drowned in one of the ponds while she was there fetching water in the evening. The thought of it still haunts me, especially that I am also a mother.” The water sources where residents collected from were always contaminated especially in the rainy seasons. This resulted in a high spread of waterborne diseases like typhoid and diarrhea mostly among children. Fortunately for the residents of Nabugondo village, Wells of Life drilled well #635 in December 2021, in honor of MICHAEL A. WALSH Jr. (USA). Today the breathtaking sight of fresh, clean water flowing from the new well brings joy and lights up the faces of mothers like Rose throughout the village. Charles Kasumba, 65, is a farmer, like most of the residents in the community. He is relieved because he can now easily irrigate his garden due to availability of sufficient water in the community. “I no longer see my children fighting for food,” said Charles. “We harvest and cook enough because of improved yields from regular irrigation of the garden, even during dry days without rains” Over 70 households today have improved access to clean water in Nabugondo village, thanks to Wells of Life. Well #635 has marked new beginnings of development and better living conditions in the community. From education to health to opportunity, clean water changes everything. Check in to our website to learn how you can help bring clean water to more families like Rose's and Charles'!
