- Diana and Danita
Eleven-year-old Diana Nakimuli and her fourteen-year-old Danita Nassaka, who both once lived under the shadows of fear and sickness, can now smile beamingly while enjoying the gift of life through access to clean water. Danita, her voice trembling yet cheerful, recalled: “My sister and I often fell sick with typhoid. I was terrified that soon one of us might die, leaving the other behind to grow up alone. But God has saved us from that fear. With clean water, we no longer face the risks of diseases or the dangers of fetching water from dirty ponds and streams. I thank God for Wells of Life, and we will always pray for Nick’s soul.” The Njagalamwenge village well is a living testament to our founder's vision, a legacy to one life lived with faith and purpose, rippling across continents and generations, leaving behind not sorrow, but an eternal spring of hope. The memory of the righteous is a blessing.- (Proverbs 10:7).
- #699 Donna Weiler Memorial Well
Grace Nakato, 13, stays with her family in Nakaziba, a remote village in Mityana district, that for all the past years was without a nearby water source, or worse no reliable clean water source. Along with her 5 other siblings, Grace always started her days early. The young children would get up in the cold wee hours of every morning, to walk for about 4km to a stream, for water, that was to be used at home during the day. This was an obligation that they had to fulfill every day before heading to school. Grace and her siblings study at St. Jude Nakaziba Primary School, the main education center in the community. "I fetched water twice each day; in the morning before school and also in the evening when we returned home, but I hated walking such long distances, for dirty water," recalled Grace. Just like Grace, most of the children and women in the community had to make the tedious journies, more than once in a day, to the stream in the next village, for water. Goats, cattle, and other wild creatures all drank from the same un protected water source, a situation that made the locals prone to typhoid and related water borne diseases. The stream was the only water source that the communities around it relied on. However, Grace and the rest of the community currently have a new water point in close proximity. Life is positively changing for the residents of Nakaziba ever since a new well was drilled in the vulnerable village; well #699 which was recently drilled by Wells of Life, in loving memory of DONNA WEILER, (USA), today provides clean and safe water to the 286 school children of St. Jude Nakaziba Primary School and the 70 households in the community, including Grace’s family. Today, Grace and her siblings no longer spend their precious school time away, while fetching dirty stream water. They are able to go to school on time and even play with their friends after classes, without worrying about long treks for stream water. "Fetching clean water from the new well is now boosting my studies,” happily shared Grace. "In the past, I would arrive late at school when my classmates had already started lessons, and I was punished on several occasions for late coming”, she added. “Am so happy this is no longer the case; I nowadays get to be the first person to sit in class for lessons. I love mathematics most and I hope I can be a pilot someday after school.” shared the hard-working young girl. “I can assure you that even, as teachers, our families went through the same water ordeals to get water”, also shared Samuel Kanyena, 44, a teacher at St. Jude Nakaziba Primary School. “Am so delighted that today we have easy access to safe and clean water, because Wells of Life ran to our rescue”. Concluded the father of 5.
- Statement Regarding The Laws of the Republic of Uganda and the Responsibilities of Buganda Kingdom
Statement Regarding The Laws of the Republic of Uganda and the Responsibilities of the Kingdom of Buganda The federal government of The Republic of Uganda has an anti-homosexuality law that is drawing criticism and publicity. Wells of Life, Inc. has been asked about our response as an apolitical, faith-based 501c3 charity that works in various parts of the Federal Republic of Uganda, which is solely responsible for the passage and enforcement of the laws of the Republic of Uganda and which passed this most recent law, as compared to the Kingdom of Buganda, where we do most of our work. The Kingdom of Buganda is a totally separate entity from the Republic of Uganda, and is a monarchy over 1,000 years old, with its own totally separate administration that supports the cultural, social, and economic matters of interest to the people of the Kingdom. As noted in the resources below, there is continuous tension between the Republic of Uganda government, which is solely responsible for passing this law, and the Kingdom of Buganda government, which is not responsible for it and which has no power or authority to pass or enforce the law. Our charity works in Uganda because of the absolutely critical needs of the simple rural people who have the unfortunate fate of living there and does not discriminate in any way against anyone based on their religion, sexual preference, age, current political beliefs, or on any other basis. We seek to follow the command of Jesus in Mk 12:31 to love our neighbor as ourselves, in the sense of Proverbs 3:28: “Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it to you’ – when you have it with you.” We are guided by the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10:25-37), which was the answer of Jesus to the question “Who IS my neighbor?”. We believe that Christian love and compassion extend over all religious, cultural, political, and ethnic boundaries, and to bring the Lord’s glory, we must act upon the teachings He has given us. Thus none are excluded for any reason that need access to clean water. Regardless of any distinction or qualification, we seek to serve all of our brothers and sisters in Jesus’ holy name. Sadly, the persecution of so many has existed everywhere in the world since the beginning of time, resulting in violence perpetrated by people who don’t know and support the unconditional love of Christ. Perhaps the best way to combat it is our way, to lead by example. Wells of Life, Inc. has established a relationship with the Kingdom of Buganda and its Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga, who are part of the majority of good and sincere Christians who serve to improve and provide relief to the many who are trapped in the grip of poverty, as we seek to establish God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. through our combined efforts to bless the impoverished and needy in the Kingdom of Buganda and elsewhere. What is our official position on this matter? It is perhaps best expressed by John 3:15-17: Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. By this we know love because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? Youth Ambassador, Gianna Carlile, shares her story to inspire others If you didn't get a chance to see it live, here it is. Gianna Carlile, who has been an ambassador for Wells of Life for 7 years, shares her story to inspire others. She began in Elementary School, has continued to raise money in her first year of High School, and doesn't plan to stop. She has proven that it just takes motivation and endurance, not a big platform, to affect change. Whatever your circumstances are, you can affect change for those living in Uganda without safe access to clean water. Small increments here and there is how Gianna has raised enough funds for 9 wells, meaning that she helped change the lives of 9,000 people. It's pretty amazing when you stop and think about it, and you can be a part of this change too.

Wells of Life featured on the Hometown Heroes segment of CBS 2 Sports Central last Sunday after the NFL game! October/2022 In Mayirye, Uganda a water well brings a community of 1270 people together. This well is a living memorial of Kobe & Gianna Bryant, and provides clean water as a tribute to the humanitarian lives the Bryant’s led. Kobe and Vanessa Bryant were married in 2001 at a Southern California Catholic parish and raised their four children in the Catholic Church as frequent parishioners at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach. A celebration of life was held at the well to pay tribute to Kobe & Gianna Bryant. The village members sported Lakers shirts and decorated the well in purple and yellow. The celebration was complete with singing, dancing, and prayer lead by Advisory Board Member Father Max Ssekiwala. In addition, the Gianna Bryant Education Scholarship was presented to Isabel Noelin (pictured below in the red dress). The scholarship was funded by Nick & Michelle Jordan to provide all funds associated with schooling for Isabel at the St. Theresa Bethany Primary School. Her dream is to become a doctor and work at the Medical Center in the Mayirye Village. The idea for honoring Kobe and Gianna was conceived by supporters of the Orange Catholic Foundation and Wells of Life. When the well was installed in October 2020, the village was provided with clean water for the first time in its 58-year history. “Water grants a future for our children,” said a primary school teacher. The well not only provides water, it provides time and education. Children no longer spend their days walking dangerous stretches of land to fetch filthy water from a pond. This well has provided an opportunity for them to attend school instead, receive an education, and enjoy the simplicity of childhood.
- WELLS OF LIFE HONORS PRESIDENT OF IRELAND WITH UGANDAN WELL DEDICATION
February 8, 2023 (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) - Wells of Life, a nonprofit Orange County-based organization whose mission is to provide rural Ugandans access to clean water, announced that its Irish branch, Wells of Life Irl, has dedicated a well in Bugalya, Uganda, to honor the life and work of Irish President Michael D. Higgins. The announcement was made at ceremony held at Aras an Uachtarain, the official residence and principal workplace for the President of Ireland. “The work of our charity links three continents - Africa, North America, and Europe - and, as such, knows no boundaries. Defeating poverty and access to water for underserved communities takes a global effort,” said Nick Jordan, the Founder of Wells of Life. “As an Irish man myself, I am proud to honor the life and work of President Michael D Higgins.” Wells of Life Irl. Operations Manager Aidan Jordan presented President Higgins with the honor on February 8, 2023, at Aras an Uachtarian. As part of the well dedication ceremony, the presentation included a gifted photo album and framed photograph of the village community of Bugalya, which was presented to the President. President Higgins had recently returned from a Presidential visit to Senegal in West Africa. There, he addressed the Dakar 2 summit on food sovereignty and sustainability in Africa. The President discussed ways to overcome many of the same challenges that are experienced daily in Uganda with African leaders from across the continent. Nearly 90% of Ugandans live in rural communities, and two-thirds of these communities lack safe access to clean water. Water-borne diseases and infant mortality are realities for many Ugandans. Wells of Life has provided safe access to clean water to over one million people through the drilling and refurbishment of over 1,000 wells since launching in 2010. Many wells built in Uganda wind up non-functional because their infrastructure is not built to last, while Wells of Life has a long-term strategy intended to maintain the functionality of the wells. Access to safe water has the power to turn time spent into time saved when it is steps from home and not hours away. For millions of women, children, and communities, access to safe water can change lives by unlocking education, economic opportunity, and improved health. Wells of Life also recently launched the Healthy Village program, which educates village communities about sanitation, hygiene, and gender-based issues such as improved access to education for girls.
