A letter from Ronald Kalungi on behalf of his community

I write to you as a village leader, but also as a father and a voice for families who wake each day uncertain of where they will find safe water.

In our remote village in Uganda, mothers and children walk long distances carrying heavy jerrycans in search of water. After the exhausting journey, the water they find may still be unsafe. Yet when a child is thirsty, what choice does a mother have?

It is heartbreaking to watch children spend precious time searching for water when they should be learning, playing, and dreaming about their future. Parents live with the painful responsibility of providing water for their families when there is simply no safe and reliable source nearby.

Our community is hardworking and hopeful. We are not asking for luxury, we are asking for something every human being needs to survive: safe and clean water. A reliable water source in our village would mean more than water. It would mean relief for a tired mother, more time for a child in school, greater dignity for families, and hope for an entire community.

Please do not let distance make our struggle feel far away. Behind this letter are real families, real children, and real hopes for a better tomorrow. Your compassion can help turn their daily search for water into a future filled with health, dignity, and hope. On behalf of our community, thank you.

With hope and gratitude,

Ronald Kalungi, Local Village Leader

Kamalenge Village, Kassanda District, Uganda
