All the preparation & determination could not anticipate the challenges that awaited us all as the drilling equipment was set up in Lugazi in the early days of April for well #9. The compressor failed and solutions to fixing it did not come easy. The rains intensified more than we had anticipated. In the end, a drilling that could have normally taken 48hrs actually took six weeks!! On Friday May 20, 2016 the equipment pulled out of Lugazi, proudly leaving behind a functioning well and a community excited and very happy with the gift of a new well.
There were some good lessons to learn from the Lugazi experience. You never know when you're going to need buckets of patience, determination, resilience, team work, faith ... but you better be ready when you do! Many thought the Fields of Life team was not going to come back to Lugazi when the equipment was pulled out for repairs. Corn that was planted when the team left was knee-high when they returned!! To all involved in the drilling of well #9 I say thank you for "believing" in the midst of all the challenges. What happened with this well was not a weakening but a strengthening of the spirit as we all move forward to improving people's lives with the gift of clean water.
